There are also a number of colleges and universities located near Sunset Beach, including Cape Fear Community College, University of North Carolina at Wilmington, Brunswick Community College, and Coastal Carolina University, among a list of others. Golfing in Sunset Beach There are several golf options in Sunset Beach. The Angels Trace Golf Links and Sea Trail Plantation & Golf Resort are both resort facilities. Sea Trail, offering three challenging, 18-hole courses, has been recognized by Golf Digest and has hosted the Carolina Pro Am tournament and the PGA Tour's Carolina Open. Other options in Sunset Beach include Oyster Bay Golf Links, the Pearl Golf Links and Sandpiper Bay Golf & Country Club. Sport Fishing & Boating The area is one of the best areas for boating and sport fishing, just minutes from the Shallotte River and Little River Inlets as well as the Lockwood Folly River Inlets and Cape Fear River. Other Activities Less than a ten-minute drive from Sunset Beach is South Carolina’s Grand Strand.
